You want to provide for your children, but you also want to make certain that you are being treated fairly and not unwillingly or unknowingly bearing too much responsibility. Our Child Support Practice
In New Jersey, child support is calculated using a statutory formula, which factors in the income of both parents, as well as any special considerations, such as day care, after-school activities, health insurance and un-reimbursed medical expenses. One of the goals of the child support guidelines is to maintain your child's standard of living after your divorce is final.
We will review any proposed child support order for compliance with New Jersey guidelines, looking to see that all relevant sources of income are properly included in the calculation, including self-employment income, seasonal income and commission-based income. When there are special needs, we will make certain they are included in the child support determination and that the responsibility for paying for special needs is fairly allocated between both parents.
We work with individuals at any stage of a child support matter, from the determination of temporary support while a divorce is in progress to motions for modification or enforcement of child support payments once a divorce is final. We represent custodial and non-custodial parents from traditional marriages, as well as unmarried and same-sex couples.
